From the expansive windows of Z Penthouse, a majestic and refined penthouse in Scheveningen, overlooking the sea of The Hague, our gaze is drawn to the golden light of sunset reflecting across the rippling surface of the water. Seated on the sofa in one of the residence’s elegant living rooms, Patrick holds a cup of rich black coffee as he guides us through the story behind the conception and creation of this unique place. In this space, where contemporary furnishings, refined materials, and home automation systems exist in natural harmony, we sense a profound balance between human beings, design, and technology. Every space has been conceived to elevate the living experience, transforming everyday life into a ritual of comfort, beauty, and genuine connection.

Z Penthouse: an urban retreat of creativity and reflection

Along Scheveningen, the coastline of The Hague, Patrick’s penthouse embodies two souls coexisting in perfect balance. From the outside, the building reflects the language of modern architecture, defined by clean lines, industrial materials, and essential volumes. Yet once you step inside “Z Penthouse,” the atmosphere changes completely: the rhythm of the city gives way to an intimate, warm, and quiet dimension - a true sanctuary.

Inside, dark wooden beams, textured surfaces, and soft lighting create a profound sense of calm. Minimalist furnishings interact seamlessly with natural materials and deep tones, shaping spaces that feel both enveloping and authentic, where every detail invites you to slow down. Technology is integrated discreetly, never disrupting the atmosphere of comfort and introspection that permeates the entire residence.

It is a space that captivates through its harmonious contrasts: an urban home with a contemplative soul, where contemporary design meets the primal warmth of a nature-inspired retreat. Here, among soft shadows, weathered wood, and muted silence, the domestic experience takes on the character of a timeless refuge.

The kitchen at Z Penthouse represents the beating heart of the home - a space where materiality, conviviality, and innovation coexist in perfect balance. Defined by deep tones, solid wood beams, and understated surfaces, the environment evokes the intimate character of a contemporary cabin, reinterpreted through a sophisticated urban lens. Within this setting, Model 1S also comes to life, seamlessly integrated into the home’s domestic ecosystem.

Today, we have the honour of sharing the valuable testimony of Patrick, owner of Z Penthouse, who has long chosen Model 1S to enhance the power of professional technology within the home.

Hi Patrick, it’s a pleasure to be here today. Let’s talk about your beautiful penthouse. What were the main inspirations behind the design of the home, and especially the kitchen?

The apartment was born from the desire to create an urban retreat with an authentic and timeless character. We wanted to shape an environment capable of conveying calm, warmth, and depth. The interior was designed by Dutch designer Thijs Murrè, with the intention of creating layered and welcoming spaces, where every element could contribute to an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen is a convivial and functional space, deeply integrated with the rest of the home. We didn’t want it to feel like a technological showroom, but rather like a natural extension of the house’s identity.

What surprised me most about SuperOven was precisely its ability to blend harmoniously into this balance. The industrial stainless-steel design of Model 1S is essential and precise, yet at the same time sophisticated and understated. Even though it is a highly technological object, it never disrupts the warmth of the environment: it interacts naturally with the materials, the soft lighting, and the architecture of the kitchen itself. It almost feels as though it has always belonged in this space.

So, the kitchen became the focal point of the entire design. How does its current configuration support your daily life and moments of conviviality? Which aspects have proven most effective in everyday use?

I cook every day for my family and often for friends as well, especially when I want to create something more special and elaborate. For this reason, the kitchen not only had to be aesthetically beautiful, but also capable of performing under pressure. The central island plays a fundamental role: it is the point around which everything revolves. While I cook, people sit around it, talk, share a glass of wine, or simply experience the space together with me. There is a very natural continuity between cooking, hospitality, and everyday living, and it is precisely this balance that makes the kitchen so central to the home.

Technology also plays a decisive role in this experience. Having a tool like Model 1S - something I can rely on completely - changes the way I organise the entire cooking process. When I know a preparation will be handled flawlessly by the oven, I can devote my full attention to the other elements of the dish - a level of comfort I could no longer live without.

You mentioned that Model 1S has become an indispensable ally. Would you like to elaborate on that? How does it integrate into your workflow, and what concrete difference has it made to the way you cook?

Let me explain it with a practical example: recently, I prepared cod and asparagus for ten people. I used one of the more than 400 integrated automatic programmes for fish, and the cooking results were perfect every single time, without the need to constantly check or rely on trial and error. That allowed me to focus entirely on preparing the beurre blanc and the asparagus.

That is exactly what has transformed the way I cook: knowing that I can rely completely on Model 1S. When technology works in an intuitive and dependable way, cooking becomes a smoother, more relaxed, and far more enjoyable experience - especially when preparing meals for a large group of people.

You’re truly a home chef. Where does this great passion for cooking and technology come from? And how has it influenced your approach to preparing food at home?

My passion for cooking definitely comes from my mother. She has always cooked with great passion and natural instinct, and that sensitivity deeply influenced both my brother and me from an early age. I started cooking seriously when I moved out as a student: I would prepare dinners for my roommates, constantly experimenting, making mistakes, learning, and improving day after day.

At the same time, my background is in engineering, and that inevitably shapes the way I approach cooking. I’m fascinated by understanding what happens behind every technique: temperature control, time management, and the balance between precision and the transformation of ingredients. In many ways, cooking is also an exercise in process, where intuition and method must coexist in harmony.

I believe it is precisely this combination of an emotional connection to food and an analytical mindset that has defined the way I experience cooking today. For this reason, I also take the tools I use very seriously. I’m not interested in what a product promises on paper or how impressive its specifications may seem - I want to understand how it truly performs in everyday use, how much it simplifies the act of cooking, and how reliable it remains over time.

So processes and results are at the core of your idea of cooking. We have to ask: what was the turning point that ultimately led you to choose SuperOven?

Frustration, honestly [laughs]. My previous oven was a high-end domestic model: expensive, from a well-known brand, aesthetically beautiful. But in reality, “high-end” mostly meant design and branding, not technology. The temperatures were inconsistent, the ventilation ineffective, and opening the door just once was enough for the heat to dissipate rapidly.

At a certain point, I started looking into professional ovens, but those are designed for commercial kitchens, with no consideration for residential integration or the aesthetics of a home kitchen. For a few years, I also had the opportunity to cook alongside a group of cooking enthusiasts in a professional kitchen, and there I was able to see firsthand what real professional equipment can do: precision, temperature stability, even cooking, and consistent performance even under pressure.

When I discovered SuperOven, it felt like finding the Holy Grail: professional technical performance combined with an iconic design that integrates beautifully into a home kitchen. And today, I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

So, who do you think SuperOven is best suited for, and in what situations would you recommend it?

It’s ideal for anyone who takes cooking seriously and is tired of appliances that look “premium” but fail to deliver performance that truly matches the promise. You don’t need to be a professional chef, but it’s important to care more about the results on the plate than the name or branding of the appliance itself.

If you cook regularly, if you cook for other people, and if you want an oven that gives you real precision and control - rather than simple convenience features marketed as technological innovation - then this is the right tool. In other words, it is designed for people seeking consistency: consistency between what an oven promises and what it actually delivers in the kitchen.

One final question for you, Patrick. Do you believe that the SuperOven can be considered the leading oven in professional home appliances? What do you envision for the future of domestic cooking?

I believe it is the first and only oven that truly bridges the gap that has existed for years between what is used in professional environments and what is available for home kitchens. Professional kitchen technology has always been superior, but it was never accessible in a form suited to a private home. Unox Casa has changed that.

As for the future, I imagine more people will approach cooking at home with seriousness and a deeper level of knowledge. The idea that design and performance must necessarily come with a compromise will gradually disappear. And SuperOven stands as a tangible leader of this transformation.
